OKKO by MIGAN

Tears are never perfectly round.

When emotions overflow from the heart, no two tears are ever the same—because each one carries a different story. There is no single shape for a feeling, just as there is no single shape for a tear.

"RAET is a jewelry brand born from this belief.By carefully selecting unique baroque pearls—each with its own organic, imperfect form—we capture the emotional contours of tears. Every piece reflects the quiet, beautiful complexities of human emotion."

Akoya Pearls – Nature’s Timeless Artistry
Since 1996, OKKO Pearls has been dedicated to delivering exquisite pearls to customers in Ise and beyond. Their philosophy is simple: “Pearls have the power to make women shine eternally, and it is OKKO Pearls’ mission to bring out that radiance.” At MIGAN, we came to know the true beauty of Akoya pearls through our partnership with OKKO—pearls that are works of art crafted by nature, with a luster and shape found nowhere else on earth. This inspired a deep desire within us to share these rare and uniquely beautiful pearls with the world. Though we are based in Japan, our journey to share Akoya pearls with the world began in Vietnam and expanded to Hong Kong, where people were deeply moved by the story behind each Akoya pearl—its natural brilliance, its organic and singular form, and the wonder of its creation. Customers were captivated by their timeless elegance and quiet strength. Now, we wish to bring this beauty beyond Asia and share it with people across the globe. With sincerity in our hearts, we deliver these extraordinary Akoya pearls to you—each one a testament to nature’s artistry and a story waiting to become part of yours.

The Miraculous Form Shaped by Akoya Oysters: Baroque Pearls

Pearls have long been treasured as “mermaids’ tears”—precious gemstones born from the sea. Among them are baroque pearls, celebrated for their organic, non-spherical shapes and gentle irregularity.

Baroque pearls are formed by natural fluctuations in the Akoya oyster’s environment—such as changes in seawater temperature, quality, and weather conditions. In earlier days, when cultured pearl production lacked consistency, perfectly round pearls were considered the most beautiful and valuable. As a result, baroque pearls were often dismissed as lower in worth due to their irregular forms.

However, as culturing techniques have evolved and round pearls can now be produced with greater consistency, baroque pearls have become increasingly rare. Their one-of-a-kind beauty is now recognized worldwide—especially in the United States—as a mark of individuality and modern elegance.

Akoya Pearls Nurtured by the Sea of Ise

Renowned as the world’s highest-quality pearls, each beautiful Akoya pearl is nurtured within the delicate body of an Akoya oyster through many silent, patient months. They are truly organic gems, created by nature. It is as countless elements of nature come together to create a single pearl.
Let us share their story from the sea of Ise.

With calm waters rich in nutrients, this blessed environment is found in Ise, Mie Prefecture.

Ago Bay in Ise-Shima, Mie Prefecture, is where Akoya oysters grow. The waters here are very calm and extremely rich in plankton, which provides essential nutrients for the oysters. With such ideal conditions, Ago Bay is recognized as the origin of pearl cultivation in Japan and remains the nation’s largest and most esteemed pearl farming region

The health of the ocean depends on the health of the forests.

The plankton that nourish Akoya oysters cannot thrive with a healthy ocean alone. Nutrients from the forests flow into the sea, enriching its waters even further. Rain falls onto the trees, seeps into the soil, where impurities are filtered out and nutrients are concentrated before reaching the ocean. Here in Ago Bay, with its intricate ria coastline where the sea and mountains intertwine, these conditions come together perfectly. It is an environment abundant in nutrients – a place where Akoya oysters can grow strong and healthy.

Days of Care and the Blessing of Akoya Oysters.

It is through countless miracles layered upon each other that beautiful pearls are born. On average, it takes about four years for a pearl to be formed within an oyster. In ever-changing natural conditions, the oysters cannot swim away or escape to find better environments. They remain where they are, vulnerable, and that is why human care is essential for them to grow strong and healthy. Beautiful pearls are nurtured through this delicate partnership between people and living creatures – a journey taken together, step by step.

Only a 1% Chance to Become a Precious Gem

After more than 1,500 days, an Akoya pearl with truly beautiful luster is born.Once the oysters have completed their cultivation period of approximately 1,500 days, they are harvested, and the pearls are carefully extracted. Each pearl is then rigorously evaluated for its color, shape, and the quality of its layers. Only about 1% of all pearls meet the highest standards to be used in fine jewelry.Countless days, the oyster’s health, the blessings of nature, and the skill of master craftsmen – it is through the miracle of all these elements coming together that a single, beautiful pearl is created.
